Brad Anderson
Ladies and Gentlemen, meet ALF ---
The 1946 International TD-6 crawler is named after my father in law. (His
initials) It was used on the Crown Tree Ranch, Willimina Oregon until he
retired. At that time, he wasn't ready to let it go in the farm sale so I
offered to store it in my shed.
After sitting for three years, I decided to check it out, make repairs as needed
and do a refurbish. This is not a total restoration, as I didn't have to do
anything major to the motor or steering clutches. (One item that has to be
changed however, is the oil pressure gauge --- It had a John Deere gauge
installed, and that just won't do!)
The blade and canopy were removed and the crawler driven into the shop.
I found during the checkout that the front oil seal leaked profusely. I elected
to split the crawler and replace it, and at the same time check all the
bearings, steering brakes, clutches etc. (They were found to be in good shape)
The seat assembly was changed to a "high seat" as the unit was uncomfortable to
operate for a big man, which I am. (This was an option, according to the parts
book, and also sports a new (used) reverse flow fan .(Special order option as
well)
The Machine was stripped to the main frame and each piece inspected and
repaired, cleaned ,polished, painted as needed and then dry assembled.
Presently I am painting and reassembling. (The track frames have not been
touched as yet, but a new (used) drive sprocket and bottom roller has been
purchased for when the time comes.)
